Ever wonder how to prevent tooth decay. Well Dublin's leading dentist has the answers.
To prevent tooth decay we need to do 4 things.
Remove the bacteria so it is physically not present to produce the acid. We can physically remove it with brushing, flossing, and tooth picks, and this can be supplemented by the chemical removal using an anti-bacterial mouthwash.

Don’t give the bacteria what they need to produce the acid (i.e.) the sugar. The very important point regarding the sugar is to understand that it is the amount of times in the day you have something sugary rather than the amount of sugar which does the damage. For example 5 or 6 cups of coffee with only a small amount of sugar spread out over the entire day is far more damaging than sitting down and eating a whole box of chocolates in one go and not having anything sweet for the rest of the day. ‘Little and often’ is bad.
Use Fluoride containing tooth pastes and mouthwashes; Fluoride has the unique ability to bond onto the surface of the tooth and make it much more resistant to the ‘Acid Attacks’.
Ask Redmond Molloy Dentists about preventative treatments such as fluoride application and the placement of fissure sealants. Fissure sealants are a painless, cheap treatment, involving no injections or drilling, where the most vulnerable areas of the teeth, the fissures, are sealed up with a resin to prevent the bacteria getting into them and thus preventing decay.
